The Eternity Cure Blood of Eden Julie Kagawa Books

I should start by saying I don’t particularly like vampire books. Maybe I just don’t pick the right ones, but they just end up boring me and don’t really bring anything new to the table. That being said, I will read any vampire book written by Julie Kagawa. Maybe it’s because she put her vampires in a dystopian world, which I love. Maybe it’s her writing. She even makes me want to read The Iron Fey series, and I dislike fairy book even more than vampire books.

I will admit that the book starts out a bit slow. I actually started reading this book after getting it from the library, but I just couldn’t get more then a few pages in before it had to go back. I ended up buying it later when it was on sale and was determined to read the whole thing. I’m glad I did. Once you really into the story it moves fast with lots of twists and turns. Julie Kagawa puts her characters in these impossible situations, pull them out in some inconceivable way, only to throw them back into yet another impossible situation. It makes a great book, but it’s not so great for my stress levels.

While Allie is searching for her sire, Kanin, she ends up running into Jackal. We all hate Jackal right? Well, not completely. Yes he’s evil, but he kind of grows on you. I ended up liking him in the end. He’s definitely the annoying older brother who you can’t stand, yet still has a bit of good. It’s just buried deep deep deep down. Of course all of this in vampire form.

In this book Allie isn’t exactly the same. She’s stronger and harder, yet she is still holding on to some of her humanity. She’s constantly fighting to keep from giving into the monster inside. Her struggle makes her likable. I always loved Allie for her determination not to give in to the monster inside. Plus who couldn’t love a vampire with a katana?

The ending? Oh that ending! The ending actually made me glad I waited to read this book close to the release of the third book. Waiting a year for the third book would be agony. Cliffhanger ending is an understatement. Needless to say, I’m dying to read the next book in the series. I’m sure Julie Kagawa won’t disappoint.

The Eternity Cure Blood of Eden Julie Kagawa Books Reviews

"This is our world, Allison. It’s pain and blood and death, and this is the reason I wanted you to keep your distance. To not get attached. Whatever we find, whatever you see or hear, you must be prepared, because it will be worse than you could ever imagine."

OH MY GOD. NO. NOOOOOOOOO!

I literally cannot function right now! Why, Kagawa?! Why do you do these things to me?! I'm in pieces, struggling to come to grips with how amazingly heartbreaking The Eternity Cure is!

This is by far one of the BEST sequels I have ever read. Most books do that thing where they slump/get boring/suck once they get to the middle book of a trilogy. But this one didn't really do that...at all.

I fell deeply in love with the characters I haven't seen/read since last year, and it was like I never left. Zeke's beautiful smile, Jackal's smartass wit, Kanin's unshakeable wisdom, and Allison's kickass "take-no-s***" attitude really made me nostalgic for book 1. I liked how this book didn't so much focus on introducing new characters as it did on developing the original ones. I really got to know Kanin and Jackal quite well (which, if you remember was one of my deepest desires for this book to accomplish! hehe success!) and I fell even more deeply in love with Allie and Zeke.

The plot was a bit slow for my taste, but the events in between kept me reading on until the end.

And the end......

Oh, my sweet Jesus....The ending.....

My soul is aching right now. I can't/won't say anything because I don't want to give anything away, but this ending floored me. It was so well-written, beautifully unfolded, that I was glued to my chair, staring at my computer screen like a possessed monkey while reading this. I couldn't stop them. The tears. Once they started, there was no holding back.

There is this need deep inside me, you guys. This compulsion to go buy The Forever Song. It's so intense that I literally can't control it.

But first I need to grieve and have a good long cry.
If you're wondering if you should read the book, yeah. Do it.

I don't know if I should be rating an emotionally scarring and disturbing book 5 stars. I might need help???
joking, lol.

I'll do my best to not give any spoilers, but no promises
The ending was probably the most disturbing endings I have ever read. Seriously. Although I am a complete softie. The epilogue gave me some sort of hope, but I still feel afraid for the characters in the next book, especially a certain boy....
I can't imagine being Allie during that time... I imagine I could not handle that amount of stress...
But I really love the characters. And although James, ERR, JACKAL* is a jerk at times, he has really grown on me and I enjoy him a lot.... Despite all of the messed up things he has done. I hope that somehow things can work out and he'll redeem himself.
