The Healers Apprentice Melanie Dickerson Books
The first of Melanie Dickerson's books I'm reading although it has been part of my TBR pile for 3 years now 🙈It was worth every bit. Unexpected full of intrigue, romance heartbreak and love. I love how the author never put forth any unrealistic expectations and the way she was able to weave in the truth about God's love and how He always has a plan for us even when it seems like nothing is working out. Nothing is impossible for God to accomplish. Will definitely be reading the rest of the series and I highly recommend this author.

The Healers Apprentice Melanie Dickerson Books Reviews
A delightful read for those who desire a simple plot and swoon worthy romance.
This book is wonderful in many aspects
Romance
Intrigue
World building
Character development
Clean language and relationships
God and Jesus
These factors is what delighted me to read and pushed me forward to unravel Rose and Wilhelm's story.
However, there were things that left me unsatisfied
The lack of the protagonist (Rose) displayed as a heroine. I felt Rise had the guts to step forward and do some saving herself, but she was laid waste as a damsel in distress.
There was also a lack of the protagonist's involvement in the main conflict with Montcore. I felt that she should have been an active role in finding him.
There should have been more plot twists, rather than predictability.
The villain should have had more appearances/buildup, than he had. Which made the conclusion of the conflict a bit lackluster.
Although this book was a bit lackluster in areas, I still found myself enjoying it, and binge listening!
Title The Healer's Apprentice
Written By Melanie Dickerson
Genre Christian Historical Fiction/Fairy Tale Retelling
Recommended Ages 13 & up
Introduction
I read this book once before and remember enjoying it. This is a Sleeping Beauty retelling. It doesn't have any magic and there are quite a few differences from the original tale, but it is a very enjoyable read and I loved all the nuances in the book.
Characters 1/1
Rose, Wilhelm, and Rupert were all great characters as were all of the side characters. Melanie did a great job setting each character up and have each of them grow in different ways.
Dialogue 1/1
The dialogue fit the location of the setting and though I'm sure it didn't technically fit the time period since they talked very differently back then, it was easy to understand which is more important. The dialogue fit the book and each of the characters perfectly.
Plot/Storyline 1/1
I love the German setting and all the changes Melanie made to the Sleeping Beauty tale. This one is much better. I love the intricacies she wove into the story and the love triangle she put in there. I don't always like love triangles, but this one worked well.
Overall Writing and Production Quality .75/1
Melanie's writing was quite good. I can't give it a full star, however. I hold traditionally published books to a higher standard than indie published ones because I know they go through many more extensive edits. This book I thought could have had a few sentences restructured that were fine as is, but could have been made more clear with a little extra thought.
Un-put-down-ability 1/1
I read the entire book in less than a week. For a full-length novel, that is rare. It helps that I was not feeling well for an entire day and read about half the book that day, but that's beside the point. I didn't ever want to put it down. Just ask my husband...
Conclusion 4.75/5
If you like fairy tales, but don't like the magic, you'll enjoy this series. A lot. The romance is also sweet and not even very mushy like so many. There are a few kisses, but they description lasts a few words rather than paragraphs or even sentences. ****SPOILER**** There is a man who tries to force himself on Rose a couple of times, but he does not succeed ****END SPOILER**** If not for that, I would say this book could be read by the entire family. Either way, I think it is a good read and would be appropriate for teens and older.
Wow! I could not believe this was Melanie Dickerson’s debut novel…
Within a few minutes, I was lost in an enchanted world with castles and cobblestones… until the very end.
I loved how Lord Hamlin noticed Rose – right from the start! Even though he visited her – and danced with her – he always remained chivalrous, even though he wanted to be with her.
But honestly, I wanted to smack Rose when she let herself be deceived by someone she had been warned was not honorable… but handsome young men can be very persuasive – and young, innocent girls are easy prey. Rose may have enjoyed his supposed affection for her, especially after feeling unloved by her mother, but thankfully she never allowed herself to go too far with him.
This story reminds me that evil exists – and it’s not always ugly, but sometimes can be wrapped up in a pretty package. The right path is not always the easy path, but it’s the right choice. Melanie did a wonderful job showing how difficult it can be to make the right choice, especially when others are urging you to take the other path.
Melanie Dickerson’s characters are perfect – well written, entertaining and represent the same values and flaws of the heroes and villains that inspired them.
Melanie is such an awesome writer! It is amazing how she weaves stories from classic fairy tales, creating her own stories – believable stories – and uses them to tell a story of hope, love and faith.
If you enjoy reading exciting, medieval fiction… with a happily ever after, don’t miss this wonderful series!
